இரத்தலும் ஈதலே போலும் கரத்தல்
கனவிலும் தேற்றாதார் மாட்டு.
(குறள் 1054: இரவு அதிகாரம்)
இரத்தலும் – யாசித்தலும்
ஈதலே போலும் – ஒருவருக்கு காட்டும் வள்ளன்மை போன்றதாம்
கரத்தல் – தன்னிடம் உள்ளதை ஒளித்தல்
கனவிலும் – தம்முடைய கனவிலும் கூட
தேற்றாதார் மாட்டு – கருதாரிடம்
ஈகையும் இரத்தலும் ஒன்றேயாகும். எப்போது? தன்னிடம் இன்னதுள்ளது என்று தன் கனவில் கூட ஒளிக்கக் கருதாரிடம் யாசிப்பதும், ஈதலைப் போன்றே, புகழைத் தருவதாகும். ஒன்றாயிருப்பது அடையும் புகழிலே என்பதை உள்ளுரையாக உணர்த்துகிறார் வள்ளுவர். இல்லையெனில் ஒருவருக்கு ஒன்றை ஈதலும், அதை அவர் பெறுதலும், எப்படி ஒன்றாகும்?
Transliteration:
Iraththalum IdalE pOlum karaththal
Kanavilum thERRAdAr mATTu
Iraththalum – to seek alms
IdalE pOlum – is like displaying benovelence
Karaththal – hiding what is in their posession
Kanavilum – not even in dreams
thERRAdAr mATTu – think to do so
The act of giving or benovlence and seeking alms are similar; how? To seek from a person who does not even think in his dreams about hiding what is in possession to the seeker of help or alms from him is one and the same in term of glory they yield – hints vaLLuvar through this verse. How else they help extended and received be the same?
“Giving alms is similar and as glorious as receiving in form
Given by benovent that does not even deny in his dream”

சிறப்பான வள்ளன்மைக் கொப்பு
