அறுவாய் நிறைந்த அவிர்மதிக்குப் போல
மறுவுண்டோ மாதர் முகத்து.
(குறள் 1127: நலம்புனைந்துரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
அறுவாய் – குறைவிடங்களாய் (பள்ளங்களும் மேடுகளுமாய்)
நிறைந்த – நிறைந்துள்ள
அவிர் – ஒளிமிக்க
மதிக்குப் போல – நிலவுக்கு இருப்பதுபோல
மறுவுண்டோ – கறைகள் உண்டோ
மாதர் முகத்து – பெண்கள் முகத்திலே
சென்ற குறளில் நிலவுக்கும், தன் காதலிக்கும் வேற்றுமை உண்டோ என்று விண்மீன்கள் கவலையுற்று திரிவதாக நினைத்த காதலன், நிலவில்தான் பள்ளங்களும் மேடுகளுமான குறைகள் உள்ளனவே, அதுபோல என் காதலியின் முகத்திலும் கறைகள் இருக்கிறதா என்ன? இல்லையே! பின் விண்மீன்கள் ஏன் கலங்குகின்றன என்று வியக்கிறான். தன்னுடைய காதலியின் மாசு மருவற்ற முகத்தைப் பாராட்டி பெருமிதம் கொள்ளுகிறான் காதலன்.
கறையும், குறையும் இல்லா முகத்தை கம்பர் இவ்வாறு கூறுவார்.
“முயற்க ருங்கறை நீங்கிய மொய்ம்மதி
அயர்க்கும் வாண்முகத் தாரமு தன்னவர்”
Transliteration:
aRuvAi niRainda avirmadikkup poLa
maRuvuNDO mAdar mugattu
aRuvAi – cuts and openings as blemishes
niRainda – in plenty
avir – ( in otherwise ) bright
madikkup poLa – just as it is for the moon
maRuvuNDO – are there such blemishes in
mAdar mugattu – my beloveds’ face?
In the last verse, a man in love would pride about his lovers face compared to the moon. The stars were perplexed and confused, would go in circles not able to diiferentiate between the bright moon and the maidens’ face. In this verse, the man in love thinks that after all there are blemishes of cuts on the surface of the moon; Does my maiden have such spots too? Definitely not! Why then are these stars confused, he wonders
“Are there spots in the beautiful maidens face?
As blemishes seen in the bright moons’ surface!”
