மாதர் முகம்போல் ஒளிவிட வல்லையேல்
காதலை வாழி மதி.
(குறள் 1128: நலம்புனைந்துரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
மாதர் முகம்போல் – இங்குள்ள மாதரின் முகத்தைப் போலவே
ஒளிவிட வல்லையேல் – உன்முகமும் ஒளிருவாயானால்
காதலை – என் காதலை நீயும் பெறுவாய்
வாழி மதி – வாழ்க நிலவே நீ!
இங்குள்ள மாதரின் முகத்தைப்போலவே உன்முகமும் ஒளிருமானால் நீயும் என் காதலைப் பெறுவாய், ஆகையால் வாழ்க நீ . தலைமகன் தான் விரும்பும் பெண்ணின் அழகில் கருவம் கொண்டு நிலவை நோக்கிக் கூறுவதாக அமைந்தது. இதுவும் கூட தலைமகன் தன் காதல் பெண் காதுபடக் கூறுவதாகவே இருக்கவேண்டும். அப்போதுதானே அவளுக்கும் தன் காதலன் தன்னழகைக் கொண்டாடுவது புரிந்து காதலும் கூடும்
Transliteration:
mAdar mugampOl oLiviDa vallaiyEl
kAdalai vAzi madi
mAdar mugampOl – Like the beautiful women here
oLiviDa vallaiyEl – if you can shine bright
kAdalai – you shall beget my love
vAzi madi – Be blessed O! Moon.
If you can shine bright like the beautiful women here, then you shall also beget my love, O! moon, says the man in love, being proud of the beauty of his love-maiden. Even this, he must have said for his love-maiden to listen so that she would lover her man more, realizing his love for her, not taking this as a solicitation to another female.
“O moon! as the beautilful maiden here, if your face
shines bright, you shall beget love in hearts’ place!”
