அளித்தஞ்சல் என்றவர் நீப்பின் தெளித்தசொல்
தேறியார்க்கு உண்டோ தவறு.
(குறள் 1154: பிறிவாற்றாமை அதிகாரம்)
அளித்து – தன்னுடைய அன்பினை அளித்து
அஞ்சல் என்றவர் – அஞ்சாதே (உன்னைப் பிரியேன்) என்று கூறியவர் (என் காதலர்)
நீப்பின் – என்னை விட்டு நிங்கிச் சென்றானால்
தெளித்த சொல் – அவர் அளித்த வாக்கினை
தேறியார்க்கு – உண்மையென்று நம்பினவர்க்கு
உண்டோ தவறு – நம்பியதில் என்ன குற்றமுண்டு?
இக்குறளில் தலைவி தனக்கு அன்பை அளித்து, பிறகு, “நினைப் பிரியேன், அஞ்சற்க” என்று வாக்களித்தவர், தாம் சொன்ன சொல் தவறி, தன்னைப் பிரிந்து நீங்கினால், அவர் பேச்சை நம்பும் தன்னைப் போன்றோர் மீதுண்டோ தவறு? என்று கேட்கிறாள். சொல்லும் செயலும் ஒத்திராமல், வாக்குத் தவறிய குற்றம் அவருடையதுதானே? என்ற உள்ளுரைப் பொருளும் அதில் உள்ளது!
யாரேனும், அவரைப் போய் நம்பி இப்படி ஏமாந்துவிட்டாயே என்று கேட்டிருப்பார்களோ?
Transliteration:
aLittanjal enRavar nIppin teLittasol
tEriyArkku uNDO tavaRu
aLitttu – giving me his love
anjal enRavar – who said, don’t be fearful (wont’ leave you),
nIppin – if he deserts and leaves me
teLitta sol – the promise he made
tEriyArkku – those who believed to be true
uNDO tavaRu – is there any fault of the?
Perhaps someone must have reproached the maiden in love for believing her lover. She says and asks, “He gave (or appeared to give) his sincere love to me and also promised that he would never leave me; but if he has not kept his promise and left me, what would be the fault of people like us in believing such vein promises?” She hints that the blame his entirely her lovers’ whose worde and action were not the same.
“He gave his love and said not to fear; and if he left, what fault
would be for those that believed of his promise and sincere act?”
