பிரிவுரைக்கும் வன்கண்ணர் ஆயின் அரிதவர்
நல்குவர் என்னும் நசை.
(குறள் 1156: பிறிவாற்றாமை அதிகாரம்)
பிரிவுரைக்கும் – தாம் என்னைவிட்டு பிரிகிறேன் என்று சொல்லக்கூடிய
வன்கண்ணர் ஆயின் – கொடிய மனது உடையவாராக இருப்பாரானால்
அரிது – மிகவும் கடினமே (நாகன் பிறிவு ஆற்றாது துன்புற்றாலும்)
அவர் நல்குவர் – அவர் திரும்பி வருவார், என்மேல் ஆசை பொழிவார்
என்னும் நசை – என்று நான் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வதும்
தோழி வாயிலாக தலைமகன் பிரிவை அறியலுற்ற தலைமகள் தன் தோழியிடம் இவ்வாறு கூறுகிறாள். “தாமே தம் பிரிவினைக் கூறிச் சென்ற கொடும் மனதுடையவராக அவர் இருப்பாராயின், அவர் திரும்பி வருவார், வந்து என்மீது ஆசை பொழிவார் என்ற நம்பிக்கை வீணே, கடினமே“.
தலைவியின் இந்த எண்ண ஓட்டத்திற்குக் காரணம் உண்டு. கூடியிருக்கும் போதே, பிரிவை எண்ணுவதும், பிரிந்து செல்லவும் உள்ளுமளவிற்கு இரும்பு மனத்துடையவராக இருக்கும் காதலர், பிரிந்து சென்று மீண்டும் வந்து அன்பை நல்குவது எங்கனம் என்றல்லவோ அவள் எண்ணுகிறாள்? பிரிந்த உள்ளங்களே அன்பிலே ஏங்கி, இணையும் நாள் பார்த்திருக்கும் என்பதை மறந்தாளோ?
Transliteration:
pirivuraikkum vankaNNa Ayin aridavar
nalguvar ennum Asai
Pirivuraikkum – To say about his separation from me (for whatever reason)
vankaNNa Ayin – if he is so hard-hearted
arid(u) – difficult or even hopeless
avar nalguvar – he will be back and give me his love, the same way
ennum Asai – that hope.
Knowing through the friend, about the lovers intention to leave (for whatever reason), the maiden tells her friend thus: “If he is so stone-hearted, without even an iota remorse to let me know about his separation, then to hope that he would be back to show his love the same.
There is reason for such a say from the maiden; Even while being with her, if he has entertained the thought of separation and left to pursue his other interests or work, how would he even think of her, when he is away, that he would comeback and shower the same love towards her!
Probably the overwhelming dejection make her forget the fact that “the distance makes the hearts grow fonder”
“If my lover was so hart-hearted to convey his separation
I have lost the hope, he would be back to show afftection”
