புலப்பல் எனச்சென்றேன் புல்லினேன் நெஞ்சம்
கலத்தல் உறுவது கண்டு.
(குறள் 1259: நிறையழிதல் அதிகாரம்)
புலப்பல் எனச் – பிரிந்து சென்றார் திரும்புகையில் பிணங்கி இருப்போம் என்று
சென்றேன் – நினைத்து அகன்றேன் அவர் வருகையில்
புல்லினேன் – ஆனால் அவரைத் தழுவி முயங்கினேன்
நெஞ்சம் – என்னுடைய நெஞ்சமானது
கலத்தல் உறுவது கண்டு – என் வயத்தில்லாது, நிறையழிந்து அவரை கலந்து நிற்பதைக் கண்டு
என்னைப் பிரிந்து சென்றவர் திரும்புகையில் பிணங்கி இருப்போம் என்று நினைத்து அவர் வந்தபோது அவ்விடத்திலிருந்து அகன்று சென்றேன். ஆனால் இந்த பாழும் நெஞ்சமானது, நிறையழிந்து அவர்பால் சென்று கலக்கவே, யானும் அவரை அடைந்து முயங்கி இருந்தேன். இக்குறள் காதற்வயப்பட்ட பெண்ணின் இருவேறு மனநிலையைக் காட்டுகிறது. மனம்தான், தலைவன் பிரிந்து சென்றதை எண்ணி கோபமுற்று, அவனோடு பிணங்கி இருக்கத்தூண்டுகிறது. ஆனால், நெஞ்சமோ அவனைக் கண்டதும் இளகி அவன்பால் சென்று அவனால் ஈர்க்கப்படவும், அவனைத் தழவி முயங்கலாயிற்று.
கலித்தொகைப் பாடல் வரிகள் “புலப்பென்யான் என்பேன்மன் அந்நிலையே அவர்க்காணிற் கலப்பென்” (67:8-9) என்று குறள் கருத்தையே கூறுவதிலிருந்து, சங்ககாலப் புலவர்கள் மற்ற புலவர்களது, கருத்துக்களை மேற்கோள்களாக தமது படைப்புகளில் பயன்படுத்தியதையே காட்டுகிறது. இதில் யார் முன்னவர், யார் பின்னவர் என்கிற ஆராய்ச்சி தேவையில்லை.
Transliteration:
Pulappal enacchenREn pullinan nenjam
Kalattal uRuvadu kaNDu.
Pulappal enach – to show my dislike about his leaving away when he came back
chenREn – and did leave, when he returned
pullinan – but still went into his embrace
nenjam – because my heart

In this verse, the maiden complains this: I wanted to express my displeasure and dislike about his leaving me when he came back, and did so also; but this heart of mine, so drawn by his charm, went with him. So, I without anyother choice, had to go and be in his embrace.
This verse shows two states of the maiden in love, a conflict between her mind and heart. Mind, displeased with her beloved leaving, does not want to see him; but her heart, feeling soft goes after him and hence she is left with no choice but to be in his embrace.
A line from Kaliththogai expresses the same thought in almost similar words, which only indicats, that poets of Sangam yore freely borrowed, effectively expressed thoughts, without copyright or plagiarism fears; Also we don’t have to get into questions and researching as to who did the first and who copied etc.

seeing my heart going after and be with him as if set in a trance”
