நலத்தகை நல்லவர்க்கு ஏஎர் புலத்தகை
பூஅன்ன கண்ணார் அகத்து.
(குறள் 1305: புலவி அதிகாரம்)
நலத்தகை – நல்ல பண்புகளை உடைத்த
நல்லவர்க்கு – நல்ல காதற் தலைவனுக்கு
ஏஎர் – சிறப்பும் அழகும் தருவது
புலத்தகை – ஊடல் கொள்ளும் பண்பு
பூஅன்ன கண்ணார் – மலர்விழிகொண்ட காதலியர்
அகத்து – உளத்து இருப்பது.
மலர்விழி மங்கையரின் உள்ளத்தில் ஊடல் தோன்ற இருப்பதே, நல்ல பண்புகளையே உடைய காதற் தலைவனுக்கும் சிறப்பும் அழகுமாம். இது எவ்வாறு என்று தோன்றுமல்லவா? காதற்தலைவன் நல்லவந்தான் . ஆயினும் அவனுக்கும் கூடலின் இன்பம் சிறக்க வேண்டுமே! அதற்காகவாவது அவனுடைய காதல் மங்கையின் உள்ளத்தில் ஊடல் ஊடியிருக்கவேண்டும் என்கிறார். ஊடலில்லையேல் உறவும் கூடலும் இனிப்பதில்லையே!
Transliteration:
Nalattagai nallavarkku Eer pulattagai
pUanna kaNNA agattu
Nalattagai – Having good virtues
nallavarkku – to the man of good stead
Eer – what is worthy is
Pulattagai – the sullenness, at least pretense petulance
pUanna kaNNA – from the maiden of flowery eyes
agattu – in their hearts.
A little petulance in the hearts of the maiden of flower eyes is good and worthy for her beloved who is of good nature. Why would sulking be good? – is a question that comes ot everyones’ mind! Yes, her beloved is many of virtues and of good stead; but for him, if the union of and embrace of his maiden has to be excellent, this would be required – just like adding a little spice to make the food tasty! Without such small and short lived love quarrels, their togetherness would not feel better!
