ஊடி யவரை உணராமை வாடிய
வள்ளி முதலரிந் தற்று.
(குறள் 1304: புலவி அதிகாரம்)
ஊடியவரை – ஊடலில் இருப்பவரின்
உணராமை – உள்ளக் கருத்தை, குறையை அறியாமை
வாடிய – ஏற்கனவே வாடியிருக்கும்
வள்ளி – வள்ளிக்கொடியின்
முதல் – அடிமுதல்
அரிந்தற்று – வெட்டுவதுபோன்றாம்
இக்குறளுக்கான பரிமேலழகரது உரையில் எந்த அடிப்படையில் ஊடியவரை பரத்தையர் என்று சொல்கின்றார் என்று புரியவில்லை. இக்குறளின் கருத்து காதற்தலைவியின் தோழியோ, அல்லது அவளேயோ தலைவனுக்கு தன் உள்ளக் குறிப்பை உணர்த்துவதாக உள்ளது. இருப்பினும் இது இருவரில் யார் ஊடியிருந்தாலும் மற்றவர் நினைப்பதாகவும் கொள்ளலாம்.
ஊடலில் இருப்பவரின் உள்ளத்தில் இருக்கும் ஆற்றாமையும், அவ்வூடலை தம்முடைய காதலர்/காதலி தீர்ப்பதற்கு முயல்வார் என்பதையும் உணராது, உடலில் நீடிப்பது, ஏற்கனவே வாடிய வள்ளிக் கொடியை, அடிமுதல் அரிந்து வெட்டுவதுபோலாம். சிறிய ஊடலைப் பெரிய பிளவுக்குக் கொண்டு செல்லும் வழியாம்.
Transliteration:
UDiyavarai uNarAmai vADiya
vaLLi mudalarin daRRu
UDiyavarai – that who is in love quarrel
uNarAmai – not knowing the grievance in the heart (and acting to resolve)
vADiya – already fading
vaLLi – vine creeper
mudal – from the bottom
arindaRRu – cutting it
In ParimElazhagars’ commentary, it is not clear as to how he refers to the person in love-quarrel as a prostitute! As the verse reads, it reflects the inner wish of the person who is in love quarrel that the other person should come and pacify and make up; it could be from the perspective of either maiden or her beloved.
Regardless, the person who is in love quarrel thinks, not knowing what the real inner wish, if the other lets the love quarrel to extend, it is like cutting the already withering vine creeper from the bottom; it would only pave for deeper division.
