புல்லி விடாஅப் புலவியுள் தோன்றுமென்
உள்ளம் உடைக்கும் படை.

புல்லி விடா – தழுவி நீங்காமல் (கூடி இருக்கச் செய்யும்)
அப் புலவியுள் தோன்றும் – அவ்வூடலில் தோன்றிடும்
என் உள்ளம் உடைக்கும் – என்னுடைய மனவுறுதியை தகர்க்கக்கூடிய
படை – போர்க்கருவி
நீங்காத் தழுவலைத் தரும் ஊடலிலே உள்ளது என்னுடைய உள்ள உறுதியை உடைக்கும் படைக் கருவி என்கிறாள் காதற்தலைவி. அதாவது ஊடல் கொள்வதால், காதலரோடு கூடலுக்கான வேட்கைத் தோன்றுகிறது, அவ்வேட்கையே ஊடலில் கொள்ளும் உறுதியை உடைக்கவல்லது. ஆதலால் ஊடலில் உவகை உள்ளது என்கிறாள் தலைவி.
Transliteration:
Pulli viDAap pulaviyuL tOnRumen
uLLam uDaikkum paDai
Pulli viDA – A lasting embrace or union
ap pulaviyuL tOnRum – made possible by love-quarrel; in that will appear
en uLLam uDaikkum – that which breaks the heart,
paDai – the weapon (that breaks the heart)
In the lasting embrace that follows the love-quarrel is there the weapon to break my resolve, says the maiden to her friend. Because of the love-quarrel, the thirst for union and embrace appear in the mind and the heart; that desire, thrist because of the love quarrel can break the resolve of the mind to stay off. Hence there is pleasure in the love-quarrel is what is implied through the maiden in this verse.
“Lasting union happens because of earlier love quarrel
In that quarrel is the weapon to break my strong will”
