கொடையளி செங்கோல் குடியோம்பல் நான்கும்
உடையானாம் வேந்தர்க் கொளி
(குறள் 390: இறைமாட்சி அதிகாரம்)
Transliteration:
koDaiaLi sengOl kuDiyOmbal nAngum
uDaiyanAm vEndhark koLi
koDai – beneficence
aLi – benevolence
sengOl – righteousness
kuDiyOmbal – caring for citizens
nAngum – these four
uDaiyanAm – one who has them
vEndharkk(u) – to other rulers
oLi – a leading light
When a ruler has the four important qualities of charity, compassion, righteousness and caring for citizens, they will shine as a bright leading light to other rulers. The last verse of this chapter stresses the important aspects of a ruler and how a ruler of such aspects can be a leading light for others.

கொடை – தானம், ஈகை
அளி – அருளுடமை
செங்கோல் – நீதி தவறாமை
குடியோம்பல் – தம் மக்களைக் காத்தல்
நான்கும்
– ஆகிய நான்கும்
உடையானாம் – கொண்டவனாம் (ஆள்வோன்)
வேந்தர்க்(கு) – ஆள்வோர்க்கெல்லாம்
ஒளி – ஒளி தரும் விளக்கு போன்றவனாம்.
தானம், அருள், நீதிமுறை தவறாமை, தன்னாட்டு மக்களைத் தளராது காப்பாற்றுதல் ஆகிய நான்கும் உடையவ ஆள்பவர்கள் மற்ற ஆள்பவர்களுக்கும் ஒளிதரும் விளக்கைப் போன்றவர்கள். இவ்வதிகாரத்தின் இறுதிக்குறளில் மீண்டும் ஒர் அரசனுக்கு இருக்கவேண்டிய பண்புகளைச் சொல்லி, அவை உடையவர் மற்ற வேந்தர்களுக்கும் ஒளிதரும் விளக்கு என்று சொல்லி நிறைவு செய்கிறார்.
