இடைதெரிந்து நன்குணர்ந்து சொல்லுக சொல்லின்
நடைதெரிந்த நன்மை யவர்.
(குறள் 712: அவையறிதல் அதிகாரம்)
இடைதெரிந்து – அவையில் பேசுபவர் தக்க நேரத்தில் (மற்றவர்களை இடைமறித்து பேசாது)
நன்குணர்ந்து – சொல்வதை நன்கு ஆராய்ந்து, இதைச் சொல்லுகிறோம் என்றுணர்ந்து
சொல்லுக – சொல்லவேண்டும்
சொல்லின் – தாம் பேசும் சொற்களின்
நடைதெரிந்த – ஒழுக்கையும், அவை சொல்வழக்கில், இலக்கணத்தில் கூறும் பொருளையும்
நன்மையவர் – அறிந்த நல்லறிவாளர்
அவையின் கண் பேசும்போது, சொல்வதற்கு தக்க நேரத்தில், மற்றவரை இடைமறித்து எதுவும் பேசாமல், சொல்ல வேண்டும். தவிரவும் நல்லறிவால் அவையினை அறிந்தவர், தாம் சொல்லும் சொற்களின் ஒழுக்கையும், ஒழுங்கையும், அவை பேச்சுவழக்கிலும், இலக்கண வகையிலும் கூறும் பொருள்களை ஆராய்ந்துணர்ந்தும், வழுவில்லாமலும் பேசவேண்டும்.
Transliteration:
iDaitherindu nanguNarndhu solluga sollin
naDaitherindha nanmai yavar
iDaitherindu – when speaking in an assembly of people (not interrupting others)
nanguNarndhu – thinking through what is said, understanding what is being said
solluga – one must speak
sollin – the words spoken
naDaitherindha – their flow, order and the expressed and intended meaning
nanmaiyavar – man of good sense of such (as said above)
When speaking in and before an assembly, one must understand the right time without interrupting other important people that are there, and speak at appropriate time. Again, those who have good sense of what they speak, must understand the order and the flow of what their spoken words are, their expressed and intended meaning would be for the listeners.
