பிறர்பழியும் தம்பழியும் நாணுவார் நாணுக்கு
உறைபதி என்னும் உலகு.
(குறள் 1015: நாணுடைமை அதிகாரம்)
பிறர் பழியும் – பிறருடைய பழியையும்
தம்பழியும் – தம்முடைய பழியையும் ஒன்றாகவேக் கருதி
நாணுவார் – பழிக்கு அஞ்சி வெட்குவாரை
நாணுக்கு – நாணுடைமை என்னும் பண்புக்கே
உறை பதி – உறைவிடமான தலைமகன்
என்னும் உலகு – என்று பாராட்டும் இவ்வுலகம்
பிறருக்கு ஏற்படக்கூடிய பழியையும் தமக்கே ஏற்பட்ட பழிபோல் எண்ணி அவற்றுக்காகவும் அஞ்சி வெட்குவாருக்கு நாணுடைமைக்குத் தலைமகன் என்று இவ்வுலகே பாராட்டிக் கொண்டாடும். அவர்களே நாணுடைமை என்ற பண்பின் உறைவிடமுமாவர்.
Transliteration:
piRaipazhiyum thampazhiyum nANuvAr nANukku
uRaipati ennum ulagu
piRai pazhiyum – others guilt and blame
thampazhiyum – and own guilt
nANuvAr – feel the shame for both alike
nANukku – for the virtue of sense of shame
uRai pati – they are the abode and embodiment
ennum ulagu – placing them so high, the world would praise.
Considering other guilt and own guilt as the same, those who feel shameful for both alike would be placed high as the abode and embodiment of sense of shame and the world would praise as such.
“Those with sense of shame for others’ guilt and own as the same
Shall be praised and placed high as the abode of sense of shame”
