112: (Praising beauty – நலம்புனைந்துரைத்தல்)
[Typically before, during and after the union, the man in love would praise the beauty of his love profusely using decorated words using appropriate simile or metaphortical references. The word “punaivu” means or ornamented or decorated words using a simile. This fosters the closeness of both, assures the thought in the female that her mans’ love. This chapters verses deal with this aspect of closeness between a man and his love.]

நன்னீரை வாழி அனிச்சமே நின்னினும்
மென்னீரள் யாம்வீழ் பவள்.
(குறள் 1121: நலம்புனைந்துரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
நன்னீரை – நீ நல்ல நீர்மை இயற்கையிலேயே உடைய பூவேதான்
வாழி அனிச்சமே – அதனால் நீ வாழ்க
நின்னினும் – ஆயினும் உன்னிலும்
மென்னீரள் – மென்மை கனிந்த நீர்மையாள்
யாம் வீழ்பவள் – நான் காதலில் வீழ்ந்தவள்.
காதலியின் குணநலத்தைப் பாராட்டுகிற வகையில் அனிச்சப்பூவைப் பார்த்து காதலன் சொல்வதாக உள்ள குறள். அனிச்சப்பூவே நீ இயற்கையிலேயே நல்ல தன்மை உடையதாய், அதாவது முகர்ந்து பார்த்த அளவிலேயே குழைந்துவிடுகிற இயல்பினைக் கொண்டுள்ளாய். ஆயினும் உன்னிலும் என்னைத் தன் காதலால் வீழ்த்தியவளோ மிகவும் மெல்லிய தன்மை உடையவளாவாள். “மோப்பக் குழையும் அனிச்சம்” என்று விருந்தோம்பல் அதிகாரத்தின் அனிச்சத்தின் இயல்பைக் கூறிய வள்ளுவர், மென்மையில் அதனினும் சிறந்தவள் இந்தப்பெண் என்கிறார்.
Transliteration:
nannIrai vAzi anichchamE ninninum
mennIraL yAmvIz bavaL
nannIrai – You’re indeed a soft and sensitive flower
vAzi anichchamE – be so blessed
ninninum – But more than you
mennIraL – sensitive and soft natures is
yAm vIzbavaL – my love that I have falled for.
In this first verse, the man in love praises his lovers’ nature comparing it to that of “Anicha flower” addressing it. “O! Anicha flower, you’re indeed sensitive and soft natured and would wither even if somebody smell you. But, my love, that I have falled for is more sensitive and soft-natured than you’re. It may be recalled that in the chapter of hospitality, VaLLuvar used the example of this nature of “Anicha flower”.
“O! Anicha flower! Be blessed! You’re indeed good-natured
But, my lady-love that I have fallen for is, more soft natured”
