நிறையரியர் மன்அளியர் என்னாது காமம்
மறையிறந்து மன்று படும்.
(குறள் 1138: நாணுத்துறவுரைத்தல் அதிகாரம்)
நிறை அரியர் – நிறைமிக்கார், இவர் உறுதியை குலைப்பதற்கு அரிதென்றோ
மன் அளியர் – மிக்கவும் குழைவுடன் இருக்கிறார்
என்னாது – என்று இரங்கியோ
காமம் – காமமென்னும் வேட்கை
மறை இறந்து – தன்னை மறைப்பதை துறந்து
மன்று படும் – எல்லோரும் காணுமாறு அரங்கிலே வெளிப்படும்
மகளிர்க்குக், காமம் என்பது தன்னை மறைப்பதைத் துறந்து அரங்கிலே எல்லோரும் காணுமாறு அரங்கேறிவிடும்; அது இன்னார் நிறை மிக்கவர், இவர் மனவலியை உடைப்பதற்கு அரியர் என்று அஞ்சாது; அல்லது,, இவர் ஏற்கனவே குழைவானவராக இருக்கிறார் என்று இரங்கவும் செய்யாது. மகளிர் தம் காமம் என்பது எந்த கட்டுக்காவலுக்கும் கட்டுப்படாது காட்டாற்று வெள்ளம்போல் பெருகிவழிவது என்பதை உணர்த்தும் குறள்;
இக்குறள் சென்ற குறளுக்கு முரணாக உள்ளதோ என்று தோன்றும். ஆழ்ந்து படிக்க இல்லையென்று புலனாகும். இக்குறளில் சொல்வது போல், மறைக்கவொண்ணாது காமப் பெருகினாலும், அவர்கள் அதற்காகவும் நாண் துறந்து மடலூர்தலைச் செய்யார்.
Transliteration:
niRaiyariyar manaLiyar ennAdu kAmam
maRaiyiRandu manRu paDum
niRai ariyar – strong in their hearts and can control; difficult to break theie resolve
man aLiyar – or very weak and pliable
ennAdu – not thinking as such
kAmam – lust
maRai yiRandu – without hiding itself
manRu paDum – will display in the arena for others to see.
For love struck-maiden, lust would not hide itself and show, for every one to see. It does not fear to break the resolve of a person because she is strong and can be controlled in her mind, nor does it pity seeing a person pliable and weak.
In general the lust of ladies is like the wild flash flood, not controllable is what is alluded in this verse. This verse may appare as a contradiction to the previous verse, but truly not so. Though they have uncontrollable lust, they still would not stoop down to climb- palm-horse like men would do.
“Neither fears they are chaste nor pity they are weak innate,
Lust shows itself for others to see, like flood that inundate”
