133: (Happiness in Love quarrel – ஊடலுவகை)
[In this chapter, vaLLuvar depicts both man and maiden desiring the love-quarrel because the union that comes after that is truly enjoyable for both of them.It is not certain if this was the last chapter he indeed wrote, but seems a perfect ending for his monumental work for humanity.]
இல்லை தவறவர்க்கு ஆயினும் ஊடுதல்
வல்லது அவர்அளிக்கு மாறு.
(குறள் 1321: ஊடலுவகை அதிகாரம்)
இல்லை தவறு அவர்க்கு – ஊடுதல் கொள்ள அவர் மாட்டு தவறே இல்லை
ஆயினும் ஊடுதல் – ஆயினும், அவரோடு ஊடல் கொள்வதென்பது
வல்லது – நன்றாம்
அவர் அளிக்குமாறு – அவர் ஊடலுக்குப் பின்னளிக்கும் அன்பை எண்ணிக்கப் பார்த்தால்
தலைமகள் யாது காரணமுமின்றி ஊடியிருத்தலைக் கண்ட தோழி காரணம் வினவ, அதற்கு தலைவி இவ்வ்று கூறுகிறாளாம். “அவரிடத்தில் ஊடுதல் கொள்ளும்படியான தவறோ, குற்றமோ இல்லையாயினும், ஊடுதல் என்பது நன்றே, பின்னால் அவர் அதனால் அளிக்கப்போகிற அன்பை எண்ணிப்பார்த்தால்”. இதனால் வள்ளுவர் ஆண்களுக்குக் கூறுவது என்னவென்றால், காதற்பெண்கள் ஏதுகாரணம் பற்றி ஊடல்கொண்டிருந்தாலும், அவர்கள் ஊடலைத் எப்படியாவது தணித்து விடுங்கள்; அதனால் அவர்களும் மகிழ்ச்சி, உங்களும் அமைதியென்று.
Transliteration:
Illai tavaRavarkku Ayinum UDudal
Valladu avaraLikku mARu
Illai tavaR(u) avarkku – he has no fault for me to engage in love-quarrel
Ayinum UDudal – though to have quarrel like this is
Valladu – good
Avar aLikkumARu – if I think of the affection and pleasure he wil give afterwards
Seeing the maiden is in love-quarrel without any reason, her friend asks her for the reason. She answers thus: “Though there is no real fault on his part for me to have love-quarrel, it is good if I think about the affection and pleasure he will give me, when he makes up for this! Looks like vaLLuvar is hinting to men, that regardless of the reason for the quarrel, even if there is none, they should try to pacify their respective love-maiden for pleasure and for their own peace of mind!
“Though no fault of him for me to engage in this love quarrel, it is good,
if I think of the affection and pleasure it brings after, it is not that bad”
